People are finding it difficult to get Accutane prescriptions filled after the IPledge program was introduced.

Reliant Fraxel approved for acne scar laser treatment

Reliant Technologies has been approved to use its laser system to treat acne scars.

Reliant said it tested the laser system in 40 patients, 93 percent of whom showed statistically significant improvement in overall scar severity at three-month follow-up.

Acne millionaires

A UK couple have become millionaires by developing new acne and other drug treaments.

Doctors routinely prescribe a number of treatments for acne, including antibiotics and even the contraceptive pill, with the best believed to be a drug called isotretinoin.
However, this does not prevent the acne from returning and there are concerns about the potential side-effects, which can include depression and suicidal thoughts.

Not surprisingly, doctors and patients are having problems with the registration process of Accutane.

It is simply too much trouble for some doctors, so they are avoiding prescribing the drug.

New FDA warnings

The FDA has placed new warnings on Antibiotic drugs for acne and the drug isotretinoin, which is found in Accutane, Amnesteem, Claravis and Sotret.

Isotretinoin poses an extremely high risk of severe birth defects. The iPLEDGE program, which was implemented March 1, 2006, is the FDA’s latest and most aggressive effort to help ensure that women won’t get pregnant while taking the drug.
